KOO was the Architect of Record for an 80,000 SF roof replacement and masonry renovation project for this historic Chicago Public School in the Gresham neighborhood of Chicago’s south side. The scope of work spanned four eras of construction, including the original 1895 school building, along with additions from 1915, 1930, and 1968. The scope of work included extensive masonry renovations at the parapet with historic decorative brick patterns, as well as work to the decorative cornice. KOO worked with the City of Chicago Historic Preservation Division to solve practical problems of meeting current energy codes and roofing best practices while minimizing the impact on this historic building’s commanding presence and elegance.
